After exciting comeback victory, Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) advanced to the semifinals in two of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal matches.
In the second half, Dortmund produced a spectacular comeback to overcome Atletico Madrid, who had trailed 2-1 on aggregate in the first leg at the Metropolitano stadium. Barcelona, however, was defeated by PSG. It overshadowed their thrilling 3-2 victory in Paris, which came after Ronald Araujo, their starting center back, received a red card, altering the course of the match.
Barcelona appeared to be in control of the match against PSG, but Raphinha’s goal for the team would be in naught when Araujo was given a red card in the 29th minute.
Two goals in as many minutes by Atletico Madrid in the second half completely changed the course of the match. After Matt Hummels’ own goal put Atletico ahead 4-3 overall, Angel Correa’s spectacular goal tied the score at 2-2 in the 64th minute of play.
With two devastating goals from Niclas Fullkrug and Marcel Sabitzer, Edin Terzic’s team showed that they never give up, winning the quarterfinal match 5-4 on aggregate at Signal Iduna Park.
The men led by Edin Terzic advanced to the semi-finals of the biggest and most competitive club championship in the world for the first time since 2013.
In the UEFA Champions League semifinals, Luis Enrique’s PSG and Edin Terzic’s Dortmund will play two legs on April 30 and May 7.
