In the first ten months of FY24, mobile phone imports to Pakistan increased significantly by 209% to $1.462 billion. This represents a significant increase compared to the $473.287 million reported during the same period last year. Imports of mobile phones increased by 5.44% in April 2024 compared to March 2024, totaling $161.393 million. Even more remarkable was the startling 1,424% rise from April 2023.
In Pakistani rupees, imports were recorded at Rs414.276 billion, a 279% rise over the previous year’s figure of Rs109.158 billion. Imports of mobile phones grew, but so did imports of telecoms as a whole, which rose by 135% to $1.834 billion.
Apart from the increase in imports, there was a notable upsurge in the local production of mobile phones, with Pakistan producing 6.1 million units in the first two months of 2024. This suggests that the country’s mobile phone industry is growing significantly in imports and local production, even with import obstacles.
The sharp rise in mobile phone imports indicates Pakistan’s rising need for mobile devices. This increase indicates a healthy demand for mobile phones even in the face of several import obstacles. Furthermore, the expansion of domestic production suggests that Pakistan is making progress in creating its own mobile devices, which may assist in offsetting the country’s future import requirements.
